Oscar Wamalwa continued with his fine run of for after returning from the CECAFA Senior Challenge, to inspire his Ulinzi Stars side to a 4 – 0 win over Zoo FC in the Round 14 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Sunday 22 December.
Ulinzi Stars showed early purpose in the game and Enosh Ochieng started the rout before John Njuguna and Wamalwa netted for a 3-0 lead at half time. Wamalwa would put the icing on the cake just six minutes after the break.
Ulinzi Stars showed real urgency in the match and in just the opening minute, Enosh Ochieng had a shot flying wide in a clear show of intent. His moment would come just three minutes later when Wamalwa won a ball in midfield and picked out Harun Mwale, who crossed it perfectly for Enosh to power home a fourth minute header.
The hosts kept the search and in the 16th minute got their second when Enosh started a move in midfield, picking out Bernard Ongoma who fed John Kago. With red shirts piling forward, Kago spotted John Njuguna’s run and slid in a through pass. The youngster didn’t need a second invitation to power home a shot that would yield the second goal.
The Soldiers were not done; another powerful surge on the right saw Brian Birgen float in a great cross right to Wamalwa’s head and with the Zoo keeper already off his spot, the lanky forward only needed to pick his spot. With a three – goal lead to the break, there was no pegging back the home team.
Six minutes into the second half, Wamalwa was at it again, sliding the ball past an empty net after a run that saw Njuguna lay him a square ball, though goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu should have done better with the low cross.
At the end of it, an Ulinzi side rarely troubled by the visitors, only had injuries to George Omondi and Bonaventure Muchika to worry about while Mark Bikokwa also seemed to struggle towards the end of the game after landing awkwardly.
The result saw Ulinzi Stars rise to fifth on the league standings with 25 points, while Zoo FC are 12th on 13 points after 14 matches.
