KPL Goals: Wamalwa, Muguna, Makwatta make up for lost ground in round 13 catch-up

Three matches from the Kenyan Premier League’s round 13 were played on Sunday 22nd December and these involved teams that have been relatively out of action. Gor Mahia traveled to Kisumu to face Kisumu All Stars while Ulinzi Stars welcomed Zoo FC from Kericho in Nakuru.

At the Mumias Sports Complex, Mathare United were returning to action and hosting them was AFC Leopards.

Ten goals were scored from the three matches which now takes the league’s round 13 tally to a massive 31 goals in the round.

We look at the players who were on target and how this affects the scorers’ log.

Oscar Wamalwa has been out with the national team Harambee Stars in the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup- a tournament that had him finish as the top scorer. Returning to duty for Ulinzi Stars, the lanky forward scored twice as the military men fired four past Zoo FC. Enosh Ochieng and John Njuguna were the other two names on the score sheet for Ulinzi.

While Wamalwa goes to five goals for the season, Enosh makes 6 while Njuguna just got his second of the season.

In Kisumu, Gor Mahia welcomed back skipper Kenneth Muguna and three others from national team duty and the midfielder netted once in their 3-0 rout of Kisumu All Stars. Nicholas Kipkurui had opened the scoring proceedings which Muguna doubled with a low shot. Bernard Ondiek found the third.

This was Muguna’s 4th of the season with Kipkirui finding his second, Ondiek was-meanwhile, just getting started.

Vincent Oburu run the Mumias show that had Mathare United falling 3-0 at the hands of AFC Leopards. A brace from the former Leopards Youth forward- sandwiching John Mark Makwatta’s lone strike, guided Ingwe to a perfect closure of the year 2019.

Makwatta, out with an injury in recent weeks, goes to 6 goals- the second-highest tally in the log while Oburu now has three.

Kenya Commercial Bank’s Enock Agwanda still stays joint top on 7 goals with Tusker’s Timothy Otieno. Makwatta and Enosh join the youthful duo of Peter Thiong’o (Homeboyz) and Benson Omalla (Stima) on 6 goals each. Wamalwa joins the 5-goal team that includes Elvis Rupia (Wazito), Elli Asieche (Sofa), Collins Wakhungu (Nzoia), Luke Namanda (Tusker) and Francis Nambute (Posta).
