Mathare United were 4-0 victors over Nzoia Sugar on Sunday 29 December at the Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani as the two teams played their final Kenyan Premier League (KPL) fixture of 2019.
Of the two halves, the second bore the best part of the action, seeing three goals scored after Clifford Alwanga had opened the scoring with a header in the first half.
James Kinyanjui helped himself to a goal and two assists while Daniel Otieno also scored and assisted before substitute Tyson Otieno put the icing on the cake with a fourth goal in the 73rd minute just 10 minutes after his introduction.
Salim Ali’s charges had lost their previous two fixtures against Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards, conceding six goals and only managing one goal in response. They thus provided the perfect response on Sunday against the hapless Millers who have now lost eight of their 14 matches.
The win nudges Mathare one place up the standings to ninth, with 20 points while Nzoia remain in 14th place with 10 points, two points above the drop zone.
Next up for Mathare United in the new year is a home tie against KCB and for Nzoia, an away tie to Bandari awaits on Saturday 4 January.
