Contributions: Assist providers for round 17 of the Kenyan Premier League
The Kenyan Premier League’s round 17 is the first week in which all goals have positive contributions. All the 15 scored Wednesday 8th, had positive contributions from a teammate. We look at these selfless individuals and map their progress on the assists board.
Collins Wakhungu’s opener against Kenya Commercial Bank was the result of a defense-splitting pass from Ronald Okoth at the Machakos County Stadium. The Bankers, however, made a comeback which began with Victor Ogendo putting everything behind a Dennis Odhiambo cross. Brian Ochieng would later grab all three points fro KCB after some neat work by Enock Agwanda.
Tusker kept their heads up in the quest for a league title since 2016 and dully dispatched Kisumu All Stars by two goals to nothing. Jackson Macharia would put the hosts above parity from a Timothy Otieno cross after which Otieno himself would score his tenth goal assisted by Eric Zakayo.
Oscar Wamalwa is now on seven goals, his latest is the difference between his side Ulinzi Stars and Wazito FC in Nakuru. Teed up well by Ibrahim Shambi, Wamalwa made no mistake firing at Wazito’s near-post for the decider.
Three goals were scored between Mathare United and Western Stima, with Stima having to come from behind to earn victory. Tyson Otieno’s opener was because Roy Okal’s through pass breached the hosts’ off-side trap. James Ogada would, however, arrive to pick up from an initial Baron Oketch shot for the equalizer.
In the second half, Henry Onyango, well released by Joel Abaliwano– fired Stima into the lead.
In Kericho, hosts Zoo had seemingly stopped Kakamega Homeboyz’s run in the league but went to sleep in injury time. Losing the ball out wide to Stephen Etyang, Zoo would concede through Moses Mudavadi who was properly released by Etyang, the entire defense caught napping.
Kariobanbgi Sharks, meanwhile, recorded their second win of the season and had Kevin-Tom Machika to thank for the three. Machika, on the other hand, was fortunate to be at the end of a James Mazembe delivery.
The final clash of the round had three goals shred between Posta Rangers and AFC Leopards. Francis Nambute had been a first-half substitution and grabbed the opener in fine fashion from a Gerson Likono cut-back. On the other end of the field, Boniface Mukhekhe would go down to a Ngotho Osman challenge and the resultant penalty tucked away by John Mark Makwatta.
