Goals and Contributions: Onyango, Kipkirui shine in round 12 catch-up

Gor Mahia FC played their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) round 12 fixture on Wednesday 15th at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu and had bottom-placed Chemelil Sugar turning up as hosts on the day.

Whipping out a 4-0 victory over the side that has now conceded 53 goals from 17 matches, Gor recorded a brace of assists, a brace of goals and even had the luxury of having two goals disallowed.

We map the goals on the top scorers’ log and also check how the assists board is affected by the midweek tie.

Samuel Onyango struck a low shot on 20 minutes after being on the end of a Nicholas Kipkirui layoff. Gor kept this slim lead into the break.

Onyango would only need three minutes of the restart to grab his brace from the clash, again, on the end of a Kipkirui lob over the defenders. With just two touches, he found the roof of the net.

Boniface Omondi came on for right full-back Bernard Ondiek in the 68th minute and just two minutes later, made it three for the visitors. Arriving unchecked to a Geoffrey Ochieng cross, Omondi fired past Daniel Kiptoo in goal for Chemelil as the host defense once again failed to cope with pressure from the champions.

Nichoals Kipkurui had done well in the match, providing two goals for Onyango and perhaps he felt it was time for him to grab one himself. Fortunate enough to be on the right end of a goalmouth melee, Kip struck Gor Mahia’s fourth of the tie.

Top Scorers’/Assists Log

The midweek result makes very few changes to the goals and assists board. Kipkirui goes to 4 goals having now netted in successive fixtures and rises from zero assists to 2 for the season. He ties with Francis Afriyie as Gor’s second-highest scorers for the season behind Kenneth Muguna who is on 5. Boniface Omondi goes to 3 goals while Onyango Samuel’s brace takes him to 3.

For Left Full-Back Geoffrey Ochieng, his Wednesday assist is his first contribution for the season.
