Tusker FC had to dig deep to pick a point in a 1-1 draw at home, against Ulinzi Stars in the two sides Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Match Day 19 clash at the Ruaraka Stadium on Sunday 26 January.
Enosh Ochieng scored with a screamer in the opening half but Timothy Otieno leveled matters in the second to see the teams share spoils.
Visitors Ulinzi Stars settled faster in the game and should have made more from their first half dominance with Ibrahim Shambi, John Njuguna and Boniface Okinyi all missing from close range.
Njuguna would however make up for his early miss with a well timed and perfectly weighted cross that flew just over the Tusker defence and was met with a well anticipating Enosh Ochieng’s boot in the 44th minute.
A venomous strike from Enosh whizzed past Tusker keeper Emery Mvuyekure to give the Soldier the first half advantage.
The second half would however belong to Tusker FC and they made use of it with Timothy winning a controversial penalty after coming in contact with Ulinzi keeper Jacktone Odhiambo. Timothy rose to take the spot kick and beat Odhiambo to level matters in the 68th minute.
A raft of chances from both sides on a slippery Ruaraka surface would yield no more goals and the two title contenders settled for a point apiece.
At the close of Round 19, and with the point taken, Tusker FC stays third on 38 points, and Ulinzi fifth on 35.
