Sofapaka FC were on Saturday 8th February 3-1 winners over defending champions Gor Mahia FC in a round 20 Kenyan Premier League match played at the Narok County Stadium from 4:15 pm Kenyan time.
Chinonso Uzoagba, scoring the fastest goal in the KPL this season, managed a brace in a match that had Sebastine Sunday grab one.
Chinonso scored within 24 seconds of kick-off, latching onto an Elli Asieche cross to head home the opener but Gor responded through Samuel Onyango in the 15th minute.
Despite heading into the breather tied, the home side- Sofa, looked the more threatening and with just ten minutes of the restart, restored their lead through Chinonso, again on a free header. This would mean Gor Mahia chased the tie with more than half an hour of play left but the hosts would serve the final blow deep towards the denouement.
Sebastine Sunday had a lose ball wander into his feet in the 85th minute just outside Gor Mahia’s danger area and this he returned to the top corner to ensure David Mapigano was beaten for the third time in the clash. It would end this way.
The loss slows down Gor Mahia’s charge at the top as they only have three points between them and second place Kakamega Homeboyz albeit with a game in hand.
In an earlier match played at 2 pm, Western Stima were taken down by two goals to one by Wazito- the winner coming deep into stoppage time.
Augustine Otu had opened the scoring proceedings for the home side Wazito but youngster Kevin Omundi restored parity. It would look like a draw from this point but only until Musa Masika decided it wasn’t going to end square. Firing home in stoppage time, Masika would guide Wazito over Stima in a hard-earned 2-1 victory.
The win lifts Wazito to 13th position while Stima drop back to 7th having not won in their last four matches.
