After seeing his team produce a convincing 3-1 win over Gor Mahia in a round 20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) fixture played on Saturday 8 February in Narok, Sofapaka FC head coach John Baraza has jokingly declared that his side has now found the formula needed to beat K’Ogalo.
Batoto Ba Mungu have struggled to win against Gor and Saturday’s win was only the fourth time in 27 matches that the 2009 KPL champions had claimed victory in this fixture and Baraza, who has faced Gor not only as a coach but as a Sofa player as well, was left pleased with his team’s effort.
He said, “We had prepared very well to beat Gor Mahia. We mastered what Gor has been doing and we used their weakness to our advantage. Gor have a lot of confidence and they came here believing that they would beat us not knowing that we have also improved on our confidence.
“Gor played well but we were too much. Now that we know their ways probably this will be a turning point and they will never beat us again,” Baraza said in light touch.
Sofa’s new mid-season recruits turned on the style in Narok with Promise Chinonso, who netted a brace, heading home as early as the first minute. Gor would pull level before the interval thanks to Samuel Onyango’s effort but Steven Polack’s men would come apart in the second stanza with Sebastine Sunday wrapping up the proceedings with a fierce drive from outside the area with five minutes left on the clock.
The win lifted Sofa up to 8th on the KPL log with 30 points but a distant 14 points behind Gor Mahia who remain perched atop of the KPL log with 44 points.
