Thika Queens shaping up for new KWPL season
Thika Queens will open their 2020 Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) campaign against Gaspo Youth in one of the key matches lined up on the opening weekend of matches in the league, on Saturday 22 February, at Ruiru Stadium.
A positive start against their arch rivals, is all Queens will be gunning for, as posed by Team Manager Granton Mganga.
Training well
The team has been training as well as incorporating friendly matches in its program, and speaking to Soka, he noted that the team is up for the challenge that comes with expectations in the new season.
“We are continuing with preparations, as well as trying to prepare the players physically and mentally. So far there is no problem except for a few injuries but I see them recovering before the league kicks off,” he said.
Thika’s top scorer last season, Mwanahalima Adam may not be part of the team as she is expected to leave for Sweden to attend trials at Djugardens IF. Mganga says her departure will be felt but won’t deter their targets as a team.
Top scorer
“As we prepare to start the season we will be without our 2019 top scorer Mwanahalima Adams, this will affect the team a bit but we are looking for someone who will fill the gap.
“Yesterday we had a friendly and I saw good improvement in the team and especially in attack and we are aiming for better results, unlike last season,” he added.
The registration window for clubs participating in the 2020 KWPL is scheduled to close on Friday 14 February and Mganga will be unveiling the new players thereafter.
