Swedish top tier side AIK have spent the last 10 days in Spain finalizing on their pre-season before the new 2020 season kickoffs and Kenyan defender Eric Marcelo Ouma has been left pleased with the camp which he believes will help in building the bonds within the playing unit.
The Swedish 2020 football season is set to begin over the weekend with the Svenska Cupen, the main Cup tournament, where AIK are set to faceoff against second tier side J-Sodra on Sunday 23. The league will however not kickoff until the first weekend of April.
Speaking after his team’s final pre-season game in the Spanish resort city of Marabella against Russian top tier side Rostov FC and which ended 1-1, Marcelo touched on his fitness as well as his excitement for the upcoming season.
“We are getting the high level experience and everything is okay as we are together as a team,” the former Gor Mahia defender is heard saying on a video shared online by AIK on Saturday, “I have enjoyed the 10 days here in Spain especially the new environment. It is a proper way to start as a team and prepare mentally as it will help us be together.
“Physically I am also okay, strong and I am looking forward to the season,” he said.
Marcelo joined the 12 time Swedish champions in November of 2019 from 3rd tier side IF Vasalund around the same time that fellow Harambee Stars teammate Joseph Okumu joined IF Elfsborg; both players making the moves after a stellar AFCON 2019.
