Queens eyes another dominant season as WPL kickoff beckons

Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira has set his focus on a successful title defence as he shapes up his charges for the 2020 Kenya Women Premier League campaign.

Queens have proven to be a dominant force in the league and as they prepare for the new campaign, Alumira, who seeks to stamp authority yet again in the league has stated that he will not underestimate any team,

Threat

Even with high targets for the season, he knows well that the newly promoted teams will pose particular danger to his plans.

“Every season we have new teams joining and each comes with a new push; I expect some tug from them,” he told Soka.

For a team that has won three straight league titles, Alumira understands his side will face tough opposition all through the campaign but he opts to stay optimistic, seeking to keep the domination.

Challenge

“I believe the season will be very competitive and it will be challenging for us too, since every team in the league will be coming out guns blazing trying to break our dominance,” he added.

The team has beefed up well in time for the campaign, bringing on board forwards Joan Nabirye (Ugandan), Sumeiyah Mwanakombo (Madira Girls High School) and Bridget Muhonja (formerly of Mudavadi Girls).

“The new signings have the potential. They are the kind of players that show the quality we go for as Vihiga Quuens,” he concluded.

Vihiga Queens will open their campaign away to Trans Nzoia Falcons on Sunday 23 February at the Manour Agricultural Center at 1 pm.
