Elvis Rupia was on the score-sheet twice to guide AFC Leopards to a 2-1 victory over Sofapaka in a Round 22 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) encounter staged at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday 22 February.
Reeling from a 1-0 week 21 loss to Tusker FC, Leopards granted Luis Misiko a start in the Mumias contest but had to wait till the second half for their breakthrough. Willis Ouma had an unfortunate handball in the box and a penalty was duly awarded to the hosts.
Rupia stepped up for the 51st-minute kick and made no mistake, scoring his second goal for the club.
As Sofa forayed forward seeking the equalizer, their backline would once more crack and in the 78th minute. Rupia collected a loose ball and had only Richard Aimo to beat for 2-0.
A stoppage-time goal by Jedinak Ameyaw did little to deter Ingwe from the full set of three points.
The victory lifted Ingwe over to fifth on the log with 37 points while Sofapaka dropped to eighth, stalling at 30 points for the season
In Kisumu, Kariobangi Sharks and Western Stima played out a drab barren draw at the Moi Stadium leaving Stima seventh after 21 matches while Sharks stay 12th.
At the Kenyatta Stadium, KCB proved too powerful for Posta Rangers, with a 3-1 win over their hosts courtesy of Enock Agwanga’s brace and a third from Michael Mutinda while Ezekiel Okare’s first goal for Rangers proved to be just a consolation.
At the Mbaraki Sports Club, in Mombasa, hosts Bandari FC saw off Mathare United 3-1 with goals from Hassan Abdallah, William Wadri and Yema Mwana while John Mwangi got the consolation goal for the visitors.
