Harambee Starlets departed the country in the wee hours of Tuesday morning for Istanbul Turkey where they are set to take part in the annual Turkish Women’s Cup that is set to kickoff on Wednesday.
As the team departed, head coach David Ouma spoke of the need for the tournament which he is intending to use to sharpen his players ahead of next month’s AWCON qualifiers against Tanzania.
“This tournament has come at an opportune time for me to gauge my players ahead of the upcoming qualifiers. We have had one week to brush through our style of play so I am confident we will do well against top opposition,” Ouma is quoted as saying on FKF’s official portal.
“Coming up against top opposition is enough motivation for us to give a good account of ourselves in Turkey. We’ll give our best, and hopefully we’ll carry the form to our match against Tanzania.”
Starlets will begin their tournament against Northern Ireland on Wednesday before taking on Chile on Saturday. The final game will see them faceoff against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The defending CECAFA champions will renew their regional rivalry with Tanzania in the race to grace this year’s showpiece to be hosted by Tunisia. The first-leg tie is set to be played in Nairobi on April 6th with the return leg coming two weeks later in Dar Es Salaam.
