Mathare United and Bandari FC were both victorious in round 23 of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) winning against Kisumu All Stars and Kariobangi Sharks respectively on Saturday 7 March.
Mathare secured an emphatic 4-1 win over All Stars at the Kasarani Stadium while Bandari earned a slim 1-0 win over Sharks at the Mbaraki grounds.
Goals from Kevin Kimani. Clifford Alwanga and Daniel Otieno had Mathare leading 3-0 at the interval and well on their way to securing the double over the league debutants. Tyson Otieno would score the fourth after being introduced from the bench and Eric Otieno would grab the Kisumu based side’s consolation.
The win ended a two game winless run for Salim Ali’s charges and lifted them to 8th place on the standings with 33 points but it did more damage to Otenga who are in danger of going back down to the second tier as they lie second from bottom with nine points.
In Mombasa, things were less as exciting in terms of goals but Bandari did manage to make the most of home court advantage and win thanks to John Mwita’s solo strike right at the death of the first half.
That is four wins on the bounce now for the Dockers who move up to 9th with 32 points. Sharks on their part remain in 12th place with 20 points.
