Former Stima coach seeks financial aid after successful operation

Former Nairobi Stima head coach George Owoko is appealing to football lovers for financial aid after undergoing a successful operation that saw him go through the surgeon’s knife at South B hospital with a chest problem.

Owoko, on phone with Soka after being discharged after undergoing the operation, says he has cleared his hospital bill- one that went way up to over half a million and this, he says, has left him without a cent.

‘’I am home currently, I didn’t want to stay too long at the hospital because I also feared the bills might get higher. I was operated on on Friday 6th and went for my first check-up on Monday. The doctors say I should see them again on Friday,’’ he says.

The experienced youth tactician reveals that he had to sell his car in order to raise part of the funds. FC Talanta, with whom he has worked recently, came in aid with Ksh 50,000 as well as friends and relatives.

The coach, who won the East Africa school championships with Barding High school in 2016, tells Soka that he was diagnosed with a blood clot late last year and was due for operation. He, however, could not raise the full sum for the procedure and had to wait.

‘’At that time I had lost my job at Nairobi Stima and life wasn’t very rosy. Knowing that I had to get it done, I had to sell a few things and that’s where I am now.’’

‘’I am recovering well at the moment but with nothing. Post-operation comes with tonnes of medication and that is where I need help especially. I need help with the provision of the maintenance drugs bills and upkeep during the recovery process. I urge friends and well-wishers to come to my aid with anything as this will help me get back to my feet,’’ adds Owoko.

The seasoned tactician has a colored CV that saw him win the KECOSO games with Bandari as well as the Copa Coca Cola with St Anthony Kitale. Such players as Timothy Otieno (Tusker), Bernard Oginga (Wazito), John Mark Makwatta (Zesco) among others have all gone through his hands at the youth level.
