Gor Mahia lands Burundian opposition in Champions League, Bandari handed Sudanese side

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia will start off their CAF Champions League journey with a two legged clash against Burundian outfit Black Eagles.

In the draw conducted on Sunday 21 July, the KPL champions were drawn to start away from home, in Bujumbura on the weekend of August 9 to 11, 2019.

The second leg of the tie is scheduled to take place in Nairobi after two weeks.

Second round

The aggregate winner in the clash will face either Tunisian club USM Alger or SONIDEP of Niger in the second preliminary round, to determine who advances to the group stages of the competition.

In the past two seasons, Gor Mahia have failed to get to the group stages of the premier club competition in Africa, only dropping a tier down, to the CAF Confederations Cup.

Last season K’Ogalo reached the quarter finals stage of the Confederations Cup.

Meanwhile, Bandari FC, Kenya’s representatives in the CAF Confederations Cup will start at the preliminary round against Sudanese side Al Ahly Shandy.

With a win on aggregate in the tie, Bandari will book a date with the winner between Tunisian side US Ben Guerdane and South Sudanese side Amarat.

Bandari will play the first leg in Nairobi before traveling to Sudan for the second.
