Kakamega Homeboyz FC have ended Western Stima’s unbeaten run in a round 9 Kenyan Premier League match played at the Bukhungu Stadium after downing the powermen from Kisumu 2-0.
Homeboyz, coming on the back of a 2-2 draw with Sofapaka at the same venue, got their goals through Ahmed Ali Bai and Kennedy Onyango to dispatch Salim Babu’s men who had enjoyed a 3-1 win in the midweek against Bandari FC.
The visitors began on a sour note, being forced to an early change after Robert Achema went down to a Vincent Mahiga tackle in the 10th minute. He could not continue with the match and saw his place taken by Lucas Weitere.
In the 20th minute, and after some sizing up of each other, it was Stima that almost went into the lead when an unchecked Abdallah Chamberi shot to the sidnet after easily weaving through the Homeboyz defense.
The home side responded with a clear chance of their own in the 35th minute and made it count. Taking up a free-kick very wide to the right of their attack, Ahmed Ali Bai struck right towards Kennedy Onyango who headed home for the opener. It didn’t take long before the second goal came.
Bai showed up again, three minutes later, after a neat one-two combination with Allan Wanga, struck at the far post to beat Samuel Odhiambo for a 2-0 lead.
Homeboyz took the comfortable lead into the break.
Stima went into the second half looking for two goals and did their early changes throwing in Erastus Mwaniki and Benson Omalla before the hour mark.
For a better part of the second half, the hosts, Homeboyz, protected their lead and would only go forward on counters. This could have in fact stretched their lead further had Bai and Allan Wanga’s attempts been a little precise.
At the end, Homeboyz emerged 2-0 victorious, and head to position 2 on the log- one point behind Gor Mahia whom they face next. Stima, meanwhile, drop to 9th with 13 points.
