Goals and Contributions: Kasuti, Muguna star in KPL Week 8 catch-up matches

Bandari and Gor Mahia Football Clubs on Wednesday 12th last week played their round 8 catch-up matches that saw each of the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League representatives in CAF Competitions hit 20 matches for the season, a tally yet to be reached by only a few teams in Kenya’s top division.

Five goals were scored in the two matches that had Bandari playing at home to Kenya Commercial Bank. Gor Mahia, were on the road to Western Stima in Kisumu.

We look at all the five goals and possible contributions for our weekly mapping of goals scored and assists provided in the league.

Cliff Kasuti was brought down just after resumption at the Mbaraki Sports Club, and William Wadri stepped up for the penalty kick which he calmly slotted home for a 1-0 lead. Bandari welcomed back Yema Mwana from injury in the 75th minute, and he would be the one to double the lead, latching onto a precisely delivered Kasuti cross to poke the ball home for 2-0.

The Bankers, having lost in the previous week, attempted a comeback which came too little too late as Reagan Otieno’s perfect positioning for a Dennis Odhiambo cross could only birth one goal.

2-1 Bandari won.

In Kisumu, Gor Mahia had to first deal with an early Joash Onyango red card- dished out in the 10th minute and forcing the champions into an early substitution that hampered their attacking threat.

Holding on against a Stima that was reckless with possession, Gor would take the lead through Cliffton Miheso, well released by Kenneth Muguna in the 48th minute. Stima would awaken from their slumber and strike back through Oromcan Villa twenty minutes after Gor Mahia’s lead. Villa, beating the offiside trap to get onto a Fidel Origa chip of the ball, made it 1-1 from close range.

The five goals don’t change much at the top of the top scorers’ chart but the assists board does take a slight alignment. Kenneth Muguna, leader on the log, goes to 11 assists while Bandari’s Cliff Kasuti rises from 2 to 4 assists.
