FEATURE: THE FOUR TEAMS LIKELY TO CLINCH LEAGUE TITLE AFTER ROUND 20 OF MATCHES

Gor Mahia

The defending champions had a poor start to the season but have shown marked improvement to get themselves into title talk while also being in the finals of the Betway Cup.

They signed sixteen new players while fifteen left the club in the main transfer window and in the mid-season window, they signed six with six others leaving.

Coach Manuel Vaz Pinto replaced Roberto Oliviera who left the club after disagreements about his qualifications with CAF.

In the last 12 games, they have won eight , drawn once and lost thrice. In the fourteen matches their coach has overseen, they have picked up twenty-eight points. They are averaging 1.82 points per game which is less than last season’s average of 2.35.

AFC Leopards

They are having a good season with three  points separating them from top spot and also into the finals of the Betway cup.

They signed thirteen players while nine left in the main transfer window and signed three more in the mid-season window with none leaving.

Coach Patrick Aussems replaced Thomas Trucha who quit earlier in the season. In the last ten games, they have won five, drawn thrice and lost twice.

Their new coach has overseen nine games so far and they have picked up seventeen points. They are averaging 2.00 points per game which is an improvement from the 1.76 average from last season and keeps them on track to win a first league title since 1998.

 KCB

The bankers have had a good season and have alternated between the first three positions throughout the season and are currently at the top.

They signed six new players while eleven left in the main transfer window and in the mid-season window, they signed another three while none left.

Coach Zedekiah Otieno has been at the helm since 2019 and in the last ten games, they have won four, drawn thrice and lost thrice. They are averaging 2.00 points per game which is an improvement from the 1.83 they averaged last season.

Tusker

The brewers lost a perfect opportunity to remain at the  summit of the standings after losing 1-0 to Posta Rangers but still look set to break the recent dominance of Gor Mahia and win the title they last won in the 2016 season.

They were among the least active in the transfer window signing four while three left and were the only club not to make a signing in the mid-season transfer window.

Coach Robert Matano who has won the league with the club before will look to add a second to the club and in the last ten games, they have won six, drawn thrice and only lost once.

They are averaging 2.11 points per game which is a slight improvement from the 2.09 they averaged last season.

The average points per game to win the league for the past five years has been 2.18 and they are the only club closest to matching that tally as they seek to become twelve-time league champions and tie with AFC Leopards as the second most successful clubs in Kenya.
