Red hot Eric Kapaito was on the mark as his side Kariobangi Sharks stunned Gor Mahia 2-1 in a Betking Premier League match at Thika Stadium.
It was the 22nd goal for Kapaito who is the current leading goal scorer in the competition and is in line to win the golden boot award by a mile.
The other goal was scored by Robert Onyango as Sharks moved to third spot on the log.
Coming into the match, Gor were looking to arrest a run of five winless runs in that saw them lose ground as Sharks leapfrogged them in the league standings.
That intention was hit with a blow just twenty minutes when the centre referee pointed to the penalty spot after Kapaito was brought down in the area by a Gor defender.
Upon sensing a chance to extend his goal tally and run away with the Golden Boot, the league’s top scorer needed no further invitation as he dusted himself up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to put his side one nil up by the 21st minute and taking his league goals to twenty two.
A hapless Gor would try to restore parity in the game but resolute marking from Sharks ensured any danger was snuffed out before it grew into any potential danger.
With nineteen minutes to go, Sharks would find the cushion and some breathing space in the match when Reagan Odede found Onyango in acres of space with a square pass. With time also on his side, Onyango made no mistake as he beat an onrushing Gad Mathews to make it two for Sharks.
After coming on in the 79th minute, Gor’s club top scorer Jules Ulimwengu halved the deficit with a strike in the 89th minute but his efforts were too little too late as Sharks saw off the contest to register the double.
